From Salad Bar to Think Tank.

An extraordinary project with the chance to provide the local and regional IT and the creative communities with substantial thrust: the recently shut-down university cafeteria located right in the scenic Greifswald inner-city is about to be transformed into a creative dialogue hub.

The proposal was tabled jointly by the University of Greifswald, the university and hanseatic city of Greifswald and WITENO. Together they are currently developing the concept for a digital start-up and innovation center. The concept calls for turning the former cafeteria into a communication and cooperation hub for start-ups, for the IT and creative communities as well as existing companies, crafts and other players. It perfectly matches a recent initiative of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state government initiating the setup of digital innovation centers.

The center is planned to provide a sound mixture of working spaces (both open spaces and offices as well as workshops and studios if required) and common areas for meetings and events. It is envisioned to become a showcase for innovation, start-ups, digital (and conventional) business and and Greifswalds work and life culture.

At the moment the initiators are preparing a feasibiliy study while at the same time discussing usage scenarios and demands with potential user and talking to administrative bodies and the state about legal requirements and financing options.
